Update from South Africa

Dear friends and family,

Our first update since we arrived safely in South Africa, the country where we have committed ourselves to for the coming 2 years. First of all we want to share our journey with you as we have been in Holland for over a month and in the United States for almost 6 weeks.

Holland.

It was so wonderful to be able to spend time with friends and family while we were applying for our visa for South Africa. We had time to connect with our church and to share about the things we were going to be involved in here in South Africa, it was a blessed time. The visa application process took us longer than expected but finally after a lot of prayer we were able to pick up our passports on the 18th of July 2011. At the end of July we headed to the United States as we received invitations to three different states to minister. We also really wanted to take the time to connect with friends and family and to share about the things that God has been speaking to us concerning our commitment towards South Africa. It was hard to say goodbye not knowing when we will be back in Holland, but we needed to go and trust that God will take care of us in all this.

United States.

We arrived in the United States in the end of July and have never felt such a heat and humidity as we did right then and there. We both love the summer so we were not complaining . Our first two weeks were different than we expected them to be but gave us quite a time where we were able to spend much time with Kevin’s brother and his wife, to get to know her and build relationship together, what a blessing! We had the opportunity to minister in our church in Ohio on the first Sunday we arrived and to the youth group on Wednesday which was a blessing for us to be able to connect with everybody. We also had the opportunity to minister in many different churches and conferences where we saw God move with a power that we have not yet seen before in our ministry. We felt a strong impression on our hearts to set up healing and miracle meetings where we invited the sick and the lost to come. We saw a person that had surgery scheduled for her leg miraculously healed. When she came up for prayer she could hardly walk as the doctor had said to her that she would never run again. But glory to God, a couple of days later she came walking the aisle to testify of her healing and of her time of running the same morning. We saw many more instant miracles taking place as people that were limping as they walked up for prayer but running for joy as the power of God would touch them. We saw people from gambling, alcohol and tobacco addiction being set free. We saw wounds in mouths disappear, hart conditions being healed, a female being delivered by a demonic bondage that caused her to have chest pains, saw people being saved, baptized by the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues and we can go on and share of so much more we saw as we just stood in awe and watched the resurrected power of our Lord Jesus Christ sweep through the meetings. The Holy Spirit spoke to us that 2011 would be a year of increase and glory to God that He is not a man that He should lie but He is faithful to perform His Word. We also had an opportunity to be interviewed about our life and ministry on a Christian television network called TBN. We were invited to speak at the church of the person that hosted and interviewed us on the program.

We were also asked to speak at a youth event in Seattle for 5 days, it was wonderful to be back and even greater to see the Holy Spirit touch and change so many young lives as they were so hungry for the presence of God. We thank God for a wonderful time!

South Africa.

Our journey begins…

After a long but very blessed trip we are back in South Africa. It took us a while to “land” in this country and we slowly start to realize that we will stay here at least 2 years. It is different from all the other times we have been here but we are getting there as God, step by step, is putting everything that we need in place for this time. From the first day we were here we have been looking after a place to rent for long term and we believe that in the right timing God has already prepared the perfect place for us. Half of the Bethesda team left to hold a Leading by the Spirit Course for 6 weeks in Northern Africa and we have seen tremendous miracles coming through for them when it comes to finances. We will stay here in Muizenberg to run the Bethesda house. God has placed a great expectation in our hearts as we continue to pursue Him and His glory to see life’s touched, changed, healed and delivered. We serve an AWESOME God!!

We are so thankful to God for all of you that stand with us in prayer and support. It is so good to know that we have loving friends and family around the world standing with us. Thank you for that!

It's been a while...

Dear friends,

We are so thankful of knowing that we have wonderful friends and family that God has blessed us with. We really want to take the time of appreciating all who has been standing with us in prayer and support. After a year of being in the wilderness and having felt like everything we loved in ministry been taken from us we can now testify that God is so faithful and committed to His glory. He has once again shown Himself faithful towards us in every aspect of our life’s and ministry. Sometimes when we walk through a dark season its so hard to see the light on the other end, but once we have walked through that season we can see the true glory that God wanted to reveal in us.

About two weeks before the new year we were having a sovereign time of visitations of God. In this time of visitations the Holy Spirit spoke to us clearly about our wilderness season and why he had led us there. He also spoke that, as we entered into 2011, a new season was ahead of us where He was going to bring a increase and give us a new area of influence. To God be the glory!!!

Trip to the USA.

We want to share with you about our trip to the United States and while we looked back all that we could see was His faithfulness! At the end of January we flew from South Africa to Ohio and the main reason for this trip was the wedding of Alex and Lindsay (Kevin’s younger brother) that was going to be on the 25th of February. We went there for 5 weeks to be able to spent time with his family that was all gathering there for the wedding and to be able to minister in different churches. As we shared with you earlier, right before we left God spoke very clearly about increasing our area of influence and we were full of expectation of the things that He was going to do. From the first meeting we attended while we were there, God opened so many other doors for us to go and minister that we were totally fully booked after a week of being in Ohio. This time in the US we had the blessing of not only minister in Canton where we were staying but in different places in Ohio as we just saw the Holy Spirit moving. We had many opportunities to share both our testimonies and there where many other churches that invited us to come and preach and minister to the people. After one service in a church in Louisville, Ohio, we were invited back for every Wednesday night as they made a special service for 4 weeks for us to minister. It was just amazing being in the presence of God and seeing how the Holy Spirit was touching and changing life’s. Many of our services went over time as we ministered to hungry souls. It was such a blessed and fruitful time for us these couple of weeks and it was great to be back in Ohio and see all our friends and people that just feel like family to us. We love Ohio and are very thankful to God for giving us so many new connections as we know that God in His timing has called us to nation of the United State of America. The wedding was the perfect finishing up as we enjoyed being together as a family and celebrating two life’s being joined together.

Back in South Africa.

After flying back to South Africa we continued with the ministry at Bethesda house where we have been involved in. God provided us with a place to stay and we are very blessed to be surrounded by great people (see picture) and to see so many life’s changed trough the gospel and power of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The ministry is growing and we are soon holding our second leading by the Spirit school (LBSC). The LBSC is a 6 week course designed to equip YWAM staff to spiritually carry and lead in ministry settings, while fostering a lifestyle of living by the Spirit. (if you want to know more about this go to www.ywammuizenberg.org) We also have been in a time of seeking Gods timing for us going to America. We are trusting God in His guidance and are fully aware that you can be at the right place but at the wrong time. Our heart is just to obey Him in His ways that are always higher than ours.

Dear friends,

This is our last update for this year and we just want to take the opportunity to thank you for all your prayers and encouragements towards us!

Arrival in South Africa, Muizenberg.

We have been in Muizenberg now for around 5 weeks and had a very good first month.
It was awesome to be able to see a lot of people where we did our school of intercession and prayer with and this made our first few weeks so much easier! The first week was basically reconnecting with people, sharing our life’s and stories and settling in the house where we were going to stay for this time. We had kind of a introduction towards the prayer and worship department of the YWAM base and saw Bethesda house and got to now more about this ministry where we would be involved with. Bethesda house is a house that we rent in the middle of the community in Muizenberg where we are working towards a daily opening hours schedule in February 2011 so we can reach people and bring the hungry and the seeking into a encounter with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Until now Bethesda house have only been working via appointments with people that are asking for follow up after a Light and Life event (more of this later) or when they want to have a prophetic check up or need just a deeper level of prayer. We have been involved with prophetic check ups which basically means that a team of three people will pray and prophecy over a person for about 45 min. It has been wonderful to see how the Holy Spirit has been speaking and touching peoples life’s through these 45 minutes. There is so much power in the spoken word and in encouragements and love! We would meet every morning at 9 am for a time of worship together which has been so overwhelming lovely and great to spend this time in His beautiful presence. After this time we would have people come for their appointments and prophetic check ups. In the afternoon was always a time for practical preparation for the due date of February 2011 when Bethesda will open her doors every day on a daily schedule. Kevin has been spending this time helping out practically with fixing the windows on the outside of Bethesda and Mariëlla has been involved into researching and looking after follow up for new believers.

Light & Life event.

The community where Bethesda house is located is very much spiritually open and active practicing a variety of demonic stuff. They organize spiritual festivals on the streets once in a while and there are different spiritual markets and thins in the surrounding. Bethesda house is trying to reach out for these spiritual seekers by stepping into this markets and festivals with a so called Light and Life event where we want to bring people into the presence of God and let them meet with the Truth and the Life which is Jesus Christ Himself. We do this by offering prophecy, prophetic art and healing for soul spirit and body. On Sunday the 12th of December 2010 we launched another Light and Life event as there was a street festival held in our street.

In 8 hours of the fair we probably ministered to around 80 people. The majority of the people that came have been hurt by religion and went very deep into the occult for solutions. Many were not yet ready to make a commitment but were in tears as the Lord spoke truth to their hearts. We saw some people come to the Lord and many were delivered from heaviness as the peace of God touched their hearts. A significant number of people came back that had come to our previous event with increased openness to us. We saw a great difference in the spiritual atmosphere of this event due to all the prayers as we were blessed with amazing people from the local church in Muizenberg and many young people from YWAM, who served and partnered with us through prayer walking, intercession, hospitality and selling refreshments.

It was a great day and so many people asked for follow up in form of a prophetic check up or just a weekly meeting and this is where we are working towards!

Right now...

Right now we are in a holiday season in South Africa and in the ministry as we have celebrated Christmas and going towards the new year! On the 2nd of January we are getting a good friend of us, Jason from the States, to join us here in Muizenberg to minister to the people. Many of you probably now that Alex, Kevins younger brother is going to get married in the States in February. We have booked out tickets from here so fly via Holland to the States in the end of January as we will spend the whole February there. We want to use this opportunity to minister in different churches, meet and reconnect with our friends, sort out our visa stuff and of course celebrate the marriage of Alex and Lindsay. After this time we will be back here in Muizenburg in March to stay here for another three months.

Bethesda House

Dear Friends,

As we approaching almost the end of our time here in Norway we would like to share with you the things God has been speaking to us.

As we wrote in our last newsletter, we have been praying for our next step after our work here in Norway is finished in September. We still believe that the calling of God is there for us to go to America, but as you probably know, in a one years long process the door has not jet been opened for us as we received a denial at the Homeland Security in California for the second time now. However we are in a third appeal process and when the time is right we will go. For about seven months now we have been here in Norway, working, praying and waiting for His direction, we really sense a strong calling in our hearts to minister the healing and saving Word of the gospel which we can’t do in fullness by standing and waiting in front of a closed door.

After many months of prayer, with the blessing of our families, we as a ministry feel the call to support the Prayer & Worship Department of YWAM Muizenberg in South Africa, that is pioneering a ministry called ‘Bethesda House’ in their community. Bethesda is a Hebrew word which means ‘Place of the outpouring and/or house of grace’ (John 5:1-15).

Thy recently signed for a building that is in the very hub of their community.
The community is extremely aware of the spiritual realm and there are many actively offering and seeking spiritual experiences and encounters through the occult.

We will be reaching out to spiritual seekers in the community in a language they understand through bringing an atmosphere of God’s manifest presence, offering healing prayer (for body, soul and spirit), prophetic ministry and evangelism, art workshops, therapy and hosting Light & Life events (http://www.lightlife.org.uk/). We will work in partnership with local churches to connect new believers with the body of Christ.

To establish a place set apart for continual worship and prayer in the midst of the marketplace, where God's presence draws the hungry and the hurting into life changing encounters with Jesus, bringing transformation of lives (salvation, healing, and deliverance) and our community.

Dear friends,

·It has been a while since you have heard from us. We just came back from Armenia where we had the History Maker conference. After this we went straight back into work again at the airport here in Norway. Finally we started to have some summer over here as well and we enjoying the sun on our days off. It has been almost 5 months soon that we have been here, just as a “in between phase” till we would get our visas to go to America. Its has been great for us to have our on place and to be able to be close to Kevin’s younger brother Alex.

Not losing hope,

·We just received news that our application has been denied for a second time at the Homeland Security in California. We have no idea of where to go from here but we and the church in America are not giving up and are trying to get some help to provide the necessary information needed. We know that some of you have been with us in prayer concerning our visas and we want to thank you for that. Sometimes life throws storms at you that you did not expect but as the Word says, the rain falls on all of us. People have asked us, why of all the nations of the world is God calling you to America? Our answer is: we don’t know ask Him, but what we do know is, that He who has called us is faithful and sufficient enough by Himself to finish what He has started. We believe that great things are ahead and that in all things His name will be glorified.

History maker II,

·We had the privilege to minister at a conference in Armenia for four days. We really did not know what to expect before the conference except that we wanted to see the Armenian young adults being touched by the presence of the Holy Spirit and that they would say “yes” to the call of God. After much resistance and demonic attacks we saw the Spirit of God brake through and touch many life’s. In the beginning of the conference it felt when Kevin was preaching that the words were just falling to the ground. After seeking the counsel of God, in a visitation, the plans of the enemy were revealed, through intercessory prayer and spiritual warfare, that the school of intercessory prayer in South Africa equipped us with, together with our team, we came against the demonic forces that were coming against our meetings. The same day Kevin preached again and the same people that looked numb in the previous meeting were now ten minutes into the massage, with closed eyes, tears running down their face and hands stretched towards heaven, worshiping Jesus. Glory be to God for the battle is the Lords. We love Armenia and its always a blessing for us to be there. We have been invited back by some local churches and when the time is right we will definitely give them a visit.

For now…

·We will be staying in Norway till the end of September and we are praying for the next step. We have been invited for the whole October to speak at different conferences from the North to the South of Brazil. It is a great ministry opportunity for us and we are exited because we have been praying that God would open up doors for us in this continent. We would like to ask you to keep us in your prayers for the wisdom of God to be with us in every decisions that we make for and in this season.

On the 8th of August 2009 in a vision God spoke to Kevin in Vanadzor, Armenia concerning a part of His end time army.

Resurrection:

· I saw a grate army of young people being resurrected from the grave. This army was climbing up through mud out of the grave, dressed with white robes. After this I saw a big mosk and fear gripped me. I been sensing that the Holy Spirit is saying that the Lord of resurrection is resurrecting His army from the grave, (John 11:25: Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life). He also told me that the mud symbolises the iniquity’s of the world and that the army that I see dressed in white will be in the world but not of the world, (John 17:16: They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world). they will overcome the spirit of the world and be clothed with robes of righteousness and with purity be consecrated unto the Lord, (Rev 3:5: He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments). Many of them will go to muslim nations without any fear and some of them will even lay down their life’s for the sake of the Gospel, because the love of God compels them and His perfect love casts out all fear, (2 Cor 5:14-15: For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again, 1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love).

The reasons that we share this with you:

· We have been sensing not only through the Holy Spirit, but also through our personal experience from this season, that the enemy is trying to do everything he can to stop you from joining the History Maker II conference in Armenia this year. Many of you have felt the personal guidance of the Holy Spirit to come but because of different reasons like financial problems, families or other personal reasons you almost want to give up on the idea of coming to the conference. We really believe and want to encourage you that where God leads, He also provides, (Phil 4:19: And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus). We should never forget that every times God is ready to do something great the enemy is right there to try to come against it and that greater glory does not come without tribulations and sufferings, (Rom 8:18-19: For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us).

· We believe by proclaiming the testimony of what we have seen and heard from heaven, that we are prophesying the things that are not as though they were, (Rev 19:10: For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy). We also as the church have a responsibility to make known the manifold wisdom of God to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places that are trying to come against the purposes of God, (Eph 3:9-10: to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places).

· Armenia is the first proclaimed Christian nation in the world and part of Mount Ararat is located at the Armenian boarder which the first mankind after the flood started out from. Armenia is also one of the few Christian nations, that is located almost in the the Middle East, surrounded by muslim nations. We do not believe that all this was just a coincidence but that Armenia is on the time schedule of God and that He strategically planted this nation for a specific reason. We really believe that the History Maker II conference, which is located in a nation with a rich history, is going to serve the purposes of God.

For such a time as this:

· I can still recall a statement made by Chuck Schumacher the senior pastor from the hosting church for the History Makers II conference. He wrote on his blog: “I believe with all of my soul and heart that, if High Mill church of the resurrection was created for nothing else, other than helping to bring HMII about, then it will all have been worth it.” After reading this statement I felt it is not either a coincidence that the Lord of resurrection is using a church with the name Highmill church of the resurrection to bring about this conference so He can see a part of His army being resurrected from the grave in Armenia.

Dear friends,

· First of all we want to thank you for all the prayers and support we received, we are blessed! As you may remember in the last newsletter we gave out to you, our heart was to make some things clearer. One of them was about our next step, us being in a process of moving to the United States as soon as we had received our visa.

Still in the process
· Well not much of that is changed because we are still waiting for our visa or to be more specific, we are still waiting on a final application paper from the Homeland Security in California before we can go to the embassy and apply for a R-1 visa. Some stuff has changed though because we have a little bit more information about the waiting time of this process. Instead of thinking that the paper would be here anytime soon, the Homeland Security in the US informed us that we need to wait at least another 4 months or more before we will have our applications answered!! This was shocking to us but in the same time it gave us more of a overview.

While waiting
· After this news everything went very fast. The first thing we both thought was: we need to find work so we can be active while waiting. You know those moments that sometimes when you look back you can see the hand of God upon your life so strong but in the moment itself you can not see it so clear? We had one of those moments because pretty soon we both applied for a part time job on the airport in Norway to work at the ground-service. Some of you may know that Kevin already has a lot of experiences in working on the airport in Sweden, so it would be easy to start working in Norway. Mariëlla on the contrary has no experience at all in this. But still, they invited us for a job interview in Norway and asked us if we could start on Monday (this was last week)! So here we are, in Norway, both with a part time job and our own place to stay (see picture), praise God!

A new perspective
· This is the first season that God brought us in that for the first months we really did not understand what was happening, a time of shaking and brokenness. From the beginning it was hard to say yes to the dealings of God, since we did not know what was going on, but after hearing Him speak to us clear about this season we, with the help of the Holy Spirit, surrendered. The Holy Spirit been speaking to us from John 15:1-2 which says: I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. He told us that the scripture says that the Father prunes the branches that are already bearing fruit (and not the ones that are not bearing fruit) so that it may bare more fruit. This shows the perfect picture of the season we are in, so we might bear more fruit because by this our Father is glorified! It might hurt a bit, it might be hard at times but we do not lose heart.2 Cor. 4:16-17 Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

At last
· So maybe you have been wondering where we were hanging out, well in Norway, our new home for now J. We stay in a apartment close to the airport we work at and right now Mariëlla is attending a course to be able to start working and Kevin is already working on the airport. We are still settling down and discovering how everything works here in Norway. We believe God has given us a new platform for this season to minister in, to the ones He puts around us in our workplace and life’s here. We are really praising God for the things He is doing and in the midst of our jobs and life in Norway we are keeping our eyes and minds fixed on Jesus our Lord and Saviour!

To make some things clearer…

Hello precious people,

Maybe it has been difficult for some of you to keep track of us in the last year and a half.
We have had a wonderful year with a lot of different training and ministry opportunities in different nations around the globe.

A glimpse through our rear mirror…

· As you maybe remember we started our first training after we got married in August 2008. We spend three months in Amsterdam, being part of a leadership training school (LTS) with Youth With A Mission where God has been teaching us and showing us different aspects of leadership. The main thing in this training that has blessed us so tremendously in our life and ministry has been the revelation that the Holy Spirit has given us about unity and partnership with the Body of Christ.

· After the LTS we felt God was leading us to travel to Canton, Ohio in the United States to connect with the church and the senior pastor (Chuck Schumacher) that has been part of Kevin’s life from the first day of his salvation. Kevin met pastor Schumacher in Armenia in September 2004, two weeks before their meeting it was prophesied over Kevin that he would meet a pastor from the United States on the day of his salvation and that this pastor would take him to America to disciple him. All this happened and Kevin spent one year (2005) studying in the school of ministry in America.

· During our three months visit in Ohio we had many ministry opportunities and new learning experiences. We felt that during this time we could apply things that we learned during the LTS about unity and working together in partnership with the church. As you can maybe recall the incredible report of testimonies of the faithfulness of God’s love and power that was manifested during the services and conferences that we were having.

· After these three months of ministering and connecting with different leaders in Ohio we felt that God wanted to take us into another season of schooling. We did a four months School of Intercession and prayer (SOIP) with Youth With a Mission in South Africa. This season of schooling was not only for training but also a time of inner healing and deliverance. Since everything that we did during the school had to be done in a team, it has been for Kevin a very challenging but key learning experience. For Mariëlla it has been a blessing as she learned to choose to walk in the fear of the Lord and how to recognize the spirit of intimidation in her life. As we look back we can see that this season has been a very important part of our life and ministry so that we can be more effective and released into the things that God has prepared for us.

Where do we go from here?

· During our journey around the globe we have been praying and asking God where He wants us to be based with our ministry responsibility but where we also can settle down as a family. During this season of traveling through many different countries we had the opportunity to be with each other almost all the time, but as you might understand, we are also longing for our own home and a place where we can be stationed.

· For the first time during our stay in South Africa we felt that God was leading us to be based in a nation for a longer period of time. Through much prayer for the past months we feel that God is leading us to make at least a two years commitment to the church in Ohio under the leadership of pastor Schumacher which we mentioned earlier on.

· At first when God was speaking to us concerning this we took time to really pray because it never came to our mind to go to America and stay there. During this time Mariëlla did not feel the peace to just go there and move immediately but to go for a one month testing time to pray even more.

· After being in America for one month as we spend time praying we both felt the peace to go after our visas. God really poured a passion in our hearts for the youth
as we were ministering.

A new training period and apprenticeship…

· We see these coming two years not only as a opportunity of ministry but also a training ground where we can apply the things which we have learned during our education and where we can serve in the local church and be under the leadership of a local pastor and leadership team. God spoke to us that before we can fully be released in the calling He has given us we must first serve under another man’s vision.

· In September 2007 during an encounter with the Holy Spirit Kevin saw in a vision the whole earth being covered with the fire of the glory of God. The Holy Spirit has been speaking to us about the end time harvest and about the army that He is raising up in our generation. He has spoken to us clearly that we are mistaken if we believe that this is about one man or church or organization but that through unity and partnership within the Body of Christ we can see the glory of God cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

· We believe that we have a role to play, as many other people within the body of Christ, to see this vision being accomplished. That is why our heart is unity and partnership within the Body of Christ so that we, as a body, can see millions of souls come to the knowledge of our glorious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Where the rubber meets the road…

· Right now we are in a waiting process for our visas and using this time to connect with our families and friends and to seek God’s face even more.
· How will you live you might wonder? Will you have a paid position in the church in the USA?

No, we will actually continue to rely upon the prayers and financial support of friends, brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ and (hopefully) some of the churches that know us. As we shared with you before, the time in the USA will be a time of apprenticeship where we will learn and serve under the leadership of the local church. However, they will not be able to pay us wages. It is therefore that we ask you to consider supporting us for this period of time as we prepare for our missionary ministry assignment.
